Match Referee — MS Boys Soccer
Refereeing a middle school boys match against SJA, and finding out how different the game looks from the middle of it.
I refereed a full match against SJA that kicked off at 4:20 p.m., two twenty-minute halves with a five-minute break. Alongside the officiating, I helped set up the match and talked with the coaches.
It reminded me of playing soccer myself in middle school, and it made me realize how much my own understanding of the game had grown since eighth grade. Managing a game fairly, in real time, is a different skill than playing it.
